Research Focus

Jenny S. Martinez earned her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago under the tutelage of Justin T. Mohr. She had previously attained her B.S. in chemistry from the same institution, where she worked as an undergraduate research assistant in Duncan J. Wardrop’s group. During her Ph.D. studies, she worked on the development of a regiodivergent method to access halogenated resorcinol derivatives from readily available vinylogous esters using sulfonyl halides as halenium donors. She also developed a methodology to access new sterically demanding halopyridines via the Ciamician–Dennstedt rearrangement. She joined the Department of Chemistry at Yale University and spent two years teaching the undergraduate level organic chemistry lecture and lab courses before moving to New York University in 2020.
