Chan elected to International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science

Garnet K.L. Chan, the A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Theoretical Chemistry, was elected to membership in the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science (IAQMS) during its 51st annual meeting held in Menton, France on July 5-6, 2014. Founded in 1967, the IAQMS has elected about 150 members since its inception, ten of which have received the Nobel Prize. Members are chosen among the scientists of all countries who have distinguished themselves by the value of their scientific work and their role of pioneer or leader of a school in the broad field of applications of quantum mechanics to the study of molecules and macromolecules. The Academy has as its main goal to provide a forum for international contact and collaboration and a periodical evaluation of the main developments, advances and promising directions of research in the broad field of its interest.

Chan is the second member of the Princeton faculty to join the Academy; the other is Emily A. Carter, the Gerhard R. Andlinger Professor in Energy and the Environment and associated faculty member in the Department of Chemistry who was elected to membership in 2009.
