Chemistry Demonstration Lab

Welcome to the Chemistry Demonstration Lab in the Department of Chemistry!
The Chemistry Demonstration Lab has been enriching undergraduate courses in General and Organic Chemistry for decades, starting under beloved chemistry professor Hubert Alyea, who taught at Princeton between 1930 and 1972. Professor Alyea was world famous for his colorful, lively classes and public performances that translated chemistry for new generations of chemists.
Supporting Our Courses
Today, the Chemistry Demonstration Lab is ably run by Chemistry Demonstrator Angie Miller. Her demos support undergraduate courses CHM 201, 202, and 207 for instructors making use of the textbook Chemical Principles by Zumdahl and DeCoste.
Public Outreach
Under Angie, the Lab also runs an outreach program, appearing in schools and libraries across Mercer County to instill a love of the chemical sciences through lessons like Rainbow Cups, Liquid Nitrogen on a Balloon, and Marshmallow Snowman. These demonstrations are appropriate for age levels 5 to 12, and generally last about 45 minutes.
