Aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and carboxylates are essential chemicals in academic laboratories and industry. In this lecture, highly selective Fe(NO3)3-TEMPO-cocatalyzed aerobic oxidations of primary and secondary alcohols with the help of different cocatalysts to aldehydes (or carboxylic acids), ketones, and esters will be discussed. Both pure oxygen and air may be applied. Combined with other reactions developed in this group, the related applications to the efficient syntheses of some naturally occurring allene and lactone products will be presented.
