2nd Annual “Posters and Pancakes” – Summer Research 2016
On Thursday, August 4, forty-two students participated in the Chemistry Department’s annual research poster session. Participants included students from the following:
- Learning Laboratory Program – high school level
- Summer Undergraduate Research Program for Diversity in Chemistry
- Leach Summer Scholars Program
- Graduate School ReMatch Program
- Freshman Scholars Institute Summer Internship Program
- SURP/Office of Undergraduate Research Program
- Rising senior chemistry majors
- Other Princeton undergraduates pursuing research projects in chemistry.
The nine-week summer programs offer younger students an opportunity to develop advanced laboratory skills and “test drive” original research. Chemistry majors are able to move their projects forward to contribute to their senior theses during their final academic year at the University. Summer program agendas included special training sessions, field trips, guest speakers, a GRE preparation course, and research talks.
Preparation for “Posters and Pancakes” included a seminar on research poster design led by Dr. Susan VanderKam, the development of an abstract, and the design and production of a professional quality poster. The students displayed their posters and discussed their projects with members of the University community. Projects covered a wide range of topics, such as the design of new antibiotics, the development of alternative fuels, blood cancer research, and superconductivity.
