Transformation of Oxygen-Based Ligands at Transition Metals: New Ligand Platforms
Organometallic chemists have a good understanding of the mechanisms by which hydrocarbyl ligands (carbynes, carbenes, alkyls etc.) are formed and can interchange. Less detail is known concerning analogous reaction types involving archetypical oxygen based ligands (aquo, hydroxo, oxo etc.). These transformations are critical for water splitting schemes. We are developing ligand platforms for the generation of discrete complexes of these types of ligands with a view towards identifying well-defined compounds for systematic mechanistic studies. Some of our recent results in this area will be described.
