Process Chemistry in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Concepts and Selected Examples

Process chemistry, the development of novel, scalable, and cost-effective routes to drug candidates, is a central component of the pharmaceutical industry.  This talk will provide a general overview of process chemistry and detail two case studies from the Bristol-Myers Squibb portfolio.  Highlights of the case studies include discovery of a chemo- and diastereoselective reductive amination using ammonia and hydrogen and development of a complex four step reaction sequence demonstrated at manufacturing scale.
